Abbie’s Story

Abbie felt trapped by her abuser.

She had faced years of manipulation and emotional abuse from her partner – which then turned into violent attacks.

To come to terms with the trauma she was suffering, Abbie turned to Oasis Community Housing’s Empower Domestic Abuse Support team for help.

Anxious at first, Abbie began working one-on-one with our team. She soon joined in with group support sessions alongside other women who had suffered similar abuse.

Abbie, with support from Empower, has turned her life around: “I am now a happy, confident, independent person who knows it wasn’t my fault.”

Abbie continues to join in with the Empower team’s monthly socials and knows that support is only a phone call away.

Support women who have suffered domestic abuse, like Abbie, by donating to our Giving a Home Christmas Appeal.

Donating as little as £6.20 could help someone like Nick to travel by public transport to access our drop-in service and get the support they need.

Donating just £15.11 could fund a visit to one of our drop-in centres – a visit that, for people like Davey, could be the beginning of their journey out of homelessness.

Donating £50 could pay for a counselling session for someone who has suffered domestic abuse – someone like Abbie who is rebuilding her life after abuse.

Donating £128.50 could provide a move-in pack, giving someone like Emma the essentials they need to start their new life in their new home after homelessness.
